We are currently seeking to fill the following position(s):

CanWest Mechanical Inc. is accepting applications for the role of Project Administrator.   This newly created role will support our projects in Victoria, BC.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will form a key part of the management team and will work as an assistant to the project manager and discipline leads on mechanical construction projects. The position will entail assisting with project start-up and closeout, coordinating subcontractors, document control, quality, safety, project controls and other administrative tasks. The candidate will also assist the field staff in daily administrative requirements. A more detailed list is below:

  • Assist Field in Quality and Safety documentation
  • Set up Daily Field Reports and track hours
  • Document Control and Turnover Packages
  • Prepare and submit RFI’s (Request for Information)
  • Attend progress meetings
  • Assist in pricing of CCN/CO work and coordinate with subcontractors.
  • Assist in project closeout documents and gather information from subcontractors.
  • Assist in material takeoffs for ordering
  • Issue purchase orders
  • Issue Subcontract Agreements
  • Material coordination

Job Type / Category

CanWest Mechanical Inc. is a Vancouver Island based mechanical construction company that does work primarily in plumbing/piping and HVAC. The Project Administrator role is a full-time position, typically Monday to Friday.

Required Education, Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have some post-secondary education and exposure to construction. Alternatively, we would consider a recent graduate that has very little experience provided that individual has the right work attitude.  Organizational and computer skills (Microsoft Office/Word/Excel) are a must.  AutoCAD experience/exposure would be a bonus.

The Position

The Junior Plumbing Estimator is a newly created position at CanWest Mechanical, and will be a key member of our estimating team, reporting to the Proposal Manager.  The Estimator will be responsible for support the Proposal Manager in the generation of proposals for a number of different markets.   Key responsibilities will include:

  • Analyze tender documents (drawings, specifications other documents) to determine scope of work.
  • Complete accurate takeoff for materials and labour estimate.
  • Prepare subcontractor scope of work packages.
  • Obtain material and subcontractor pricing.
  • Complete detailed reviews of vendor and subcontractor pricing. Provide recommendations on pricing that should be carried.
  • Prepare and submit RFI’s to clarify any discrepancies or concerns identified while estimating the project.
  • Provide proposal manager with labour manhours, material estimate, subcontractor pricing, risk register and clarifications prior to closing the tender.
  • Assist proposal manager with generating proposal documents.
  • Prepare turnover package for project kickoff meeting.
  • Review contract to ensure it is based on the submitted tender.
  • Assist project manager with estimating extra work after contract is issued.
  • Maintain estimate schedule.
